Mr. Efstathios Efstathopoulos serves as Professor of Medical Physics and Nanomedicine at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). He is the chairman of the Department of Applied Medical Physics, of the School of Medicine at Attikon General University Hospital in Chaidari. He studied Physics at the University of Patras (1988). He completed his M.Sc. in Medical Physics at the University of Surrey, UK (1989). He worked in the private sector and then at Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre (1993-2003). He received his PhD in Medical Physics from the University of Patras (2002). In addition, he completed his postgraduate studies in the Postgraduate Program of Studies "Adult Education" at Hellenic Open University (2024). His educational work includes teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level at the School of Medicine of the University of Athens and at postgraduate level at the University of Patras. At undergraduate level he teaches and is responsible for the elective course "Nanomedicine". At the postgraduate level, he designed and organized, together with professors from the School of Medicine and the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Athens, the foreign-language Interdepartmental (School of Medicine and Department of Pharmacy) Postgraduate Program "Nanomedicine", which has been operating since 2018, holding the position of Director and Chairman of the Excecutive Committee (CEC). He also teaches in four other MSc's of the School. In addition he teaches in the MSc "Medical Physics" of the University of Patras. His research work focuses on X-ray dosimetry of patients and staff, X-ray imaging, detection of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque, nanomedicine and artificial intelligence in health care. He is author or co-author of more than 180 scientific papers published in foreign language journals, with more than 5,900 citations (https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=en&user=xt9Uy7gAAAAJ). He has presented more than 200 papers and more than 100 invited lectures at scientific conferences. He is co-opperating in funded research projects in which he participates with his research group. He has been a supervisor in 9 completed PhD theses and is a supervisor in 8 PhD theses in progress. His clinical work at Attikon General University Hospital focuses on the applications of Physics in Medical X-ray Imaging and Radiation Protection of staff and patients. He is the Radiation Protection Supervisor for Radiology Units and the Department of Nuclear Medicine. In addition, he is the Scientific Coordinator of the Bone Density Measurement Unit, at Eugenideio University Hospital. He served as Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Academic Affairs and Student Affairs at the Hellenic Open University (HOU) from September 2019 to November 2022. He is a founding member and President (2016-today) of the Hellenic Society of Nanotechnology in Health Sciences (www.hsnanohs.eu). He is a member of the scientific societies CIRSE (www.cirse. org), ESR (myesr.org), HSMP (www.efie.gr), HSIR (epemvatiki.gr), HSP (eef.gr). He is the President of Hellenic Chess Federation from 2020, where he was Vice-President 2002-2004 and 2008-2020. 2013-2014 and 2017-2019 he served as President at the Hellenic Federation of University Professors, where he was Vice-President between 2011-2013.
